In the 1970s, it was basically a race to make the newest, strangest possible kick drum pedal.

Joe Calato, inventor of the Regal Tip nylon tip drumstick, had an idea for a bass drum pedal, that was sort of like the Rogers Swiv-O-Matic, but had a spring system involving two springs and a geared cam, and in this case, a longer footboard where the hinge is hidden underneath the playing surface.

This one is in very good mechanical shape, but it does have a replacement beater, and like most vintage pedals would probably do well with a nice bath of 3-In-One Oil.
