Welcome back to this new episode of 2112's Puzzler Series...

This one's all birch. And Tama have a long history with birch.

We'll start at the beginning of the story - Tama Drums as we think of them today entered the global market in 1974 with three lines - the Imperialstar, made of Philippine Mahogany aka Luan; the Royalstar, made of Apitong wood, a relative of Luan; and the Swingstar, a sort of stripped-down Royalstar.

In 1976, Tama introduced the Superstar, their first birch drum set. These featured thin shells with re-rings, and switched to straight shells in 1980. Later 1980s got us the Granstar series, and in the 1994 Tama introduced the Starclassic line, with the original Performer shell being made of Philippine Mahogany; this shell was upgraded to birch in later years, and was eventually replaced by a birch/bubinga shell made in China in 2006. These were some of Tama's first kits made in their Chinese factory, where most Starclassics are now made.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I can't find this exact drum in any of Tama's catalogs, and that's where I just got all that info up there.

This one is an all-birch shell, made in Japan, but this Antique Sunburst was first introduced in their 2006 catalog as part of the initial Birch/Bubinga offerings. So we think this is a late 2005 or early 2006 make, just before Tama introduced the B/B kits.

So we think this is a pretty rare drum. Something tells you me you may already know that.
