1990s Pearl MRX 6-ply Maple Floor Tom 13x16

13" depth, 16" diameter

Pearl were a big part of the 1990s industry move back to maple as the preeminent shell material. Their main lines at the time were MMX, a 4-ply 5mm shell with 4-ply reinforcement rings, and MRX, a 6-ply 7.5mm shell without the rings. This is an MRX, so it's got the thicker shell without the rings. Though Pearl were always pushing the MMX as the flagship, I (hi, Ryan here) always thought the 6-ply shells were the "real" Pearl sound.

These are punchy, and louder than the thinner shells, and they project just effortlessly.

This one has the flanged hoops, which means this was made between 1993 and 1998. The Masters line was introduced in 1993, and in 1999 Pearl moved to MasterCast hoops.

When I think of 90s Pearl, I think of Steve Ferrone on Tom Petty's Wildflowers, Mike Mangini's insane solo on that green kit with Steve Vai, and Chad Smith with the Chili Peppers. And according to Jörg, every drummer worth listening to in Germany was playing Pearl in the 90s.

This drum is in very nice shape. Pearl make a sturdy drum. Chrome is clean, and so is the finish.

Comes with legs.
