Used Pearl Free Floating Snare Drum, Maple Shell
5" depth, 14" diameter
You probably already know what the Free Floating snare is, but if you don't - in the 90s, when the era of infinite drum resonance was in its infancy, Pearl realized that you could mount the lugs of a snare drum to a cast aluminum frame, then fit shell inserts of various materials on the top of this frame, thereby removing the typical dampening effect of shell hardware on that shell insert.
The result is a drum that is a bit more sensitive and lively than a drum of an otherwise standard build. But these shell inserts can also be exchanged with other shells!
This one is maple, which is probably the most common model.
This is an early 2nd Generation drum, with the more reliable rounded lugs and die-cast hoops, but with the extended snare roller system. Super cool!
