One of the primary reasons Ludwig is "The Most Famous Name On Drums" is the legendary Black Beauty Snare Drum. The drum is constructed of a single sheet of brass that is hydroormed into a seamless beaded shell. However, due to their truly unique and difficult manufacturing process, only a very limited number of Black Beauties are available each year from Ludwig USA.
A true American original, the Black Beauty provides a warm, round metallic tone that is often imitated, but never duplicated.
Ludwig designates a drum “B-Stock” if it has any sort of cosmetic imperfection. B-Stock only has to do with the appearance of the actual shell. Most of the time we can’t even see what the issue is that made it B-stock. B-Stock has nothing to do w/ roundness of the shell, parts on the drum (throw-off etc…). It’s all cosmetic. We keep several models of B-Stock Ludwig snares in stock.
