Take a deep breath, then say it with me:

Okay, now that we've done that part, let's talk a little about what that means.

Purple Core is DW's name for a shell comprised of two species of woods, with a 3-ply center of purpleheart wood sandwiched between 3-ply inner and outer portions, then fit with matching 3-ply reinforcement rings. In this case, the inner and outer wood is mahogany, and this being DW they've reduced the internal tension of the shell as much as possible, and claim that this Purplecore Mahogany shell is the lowest natural pitch of any shell they currently make, and produces unmatched low frequency content.

So what we're looking at here is a snare drum that sounds as fat as possible. But it's also got that DW sensitivity and crack we've all come to know and love.

This 9-ply shell is then fit with an outermost ply of exotic Padauk in a vertical grain orientation that they call "Candy Stripe," finished in a natural hard satin, and assembled with nickel-plated hardware. So it looks as classy as it sounds!
