Back in 2013, Ludwig got a bee in their bonnet to harken back to the glory days of the 1970s, specifically, the American bicentennial of 1976, the 200th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In recognition of this event, the entire United States came together to put forth an impressive array of honorary events, including a recreation of Washington's historic crossing of the Delaware River, the American Freedom Train, and a parade in Washington DC featuring grand marshal Johnny Cash!

In this heady time, Ludwig was similarly swept away in the frenzy and made kits featuring a new 6-ply maple-poplar "Classic" shell in a special three-piece glitter finish comprised of a red band at the top, a silver band in the middle, and a blue band at the bottom, representing the colors of Old Glory. Though in all fairness, this arrangement more accurately represents the Dutch flag.

We here at 2112 aren't entirely sure why Ludwig waited exactly 37 years to reissue this color, but here it is! It features the current Classic Maple shell, which was introduced in the 1990s - 7 plies of maple to make a 6mm-thick shell. The sound is warm, and balanced, and sensitive, like you would expect any Ludwig to be.

Ludwig also fit this drum with a 1970s-appropriate blue-and-olive parallelogram badge, so if you're looking for a snare to match your kit, this is it!

This drum was purchased new by one of 2112's owners, and Tony has kept it in the box with its original heads the entire time. So this truly is a New drum, from Old Stock!
