Handcrafted using cherry inner and outer veneers, Big Softy’s 14” x 6.5” shell encircles a central core of kiln-dried Balsa. Yes - Balsa! Don’t be turned off by thoughts of model planes and crafting, Balsa is a seriously underrated wood and is perfectly suited to the Big Softy. This surprisingly light, open-density hardwood possesses a micro-pore grain structure which actively filters out higher frequencies, giving you a massive range of tonal possibilities. Big Softy is designed to enable higher batter head tension for a truly responsive rebound and still achieve bigger, warmer and funkier sounds without the need to detune. Absolutely at home in the studio, Big Softy is adored by drummers, producers and engineers.

The plastic retainer inside the lug that normally holds the ferrule nut in place has been deliberately under-sized, allowing the tension rod to bite into the plastic and provide a tighter grip in the lug.
The result is a drum that will hold the drum skin under tension far more reliably for longer periods of time, making your drums sound amazing all the time!
